The Gracious Deviants are an acoustic group based in Wellington, New Zealand. As well as a reasonably accurate description of the band’s personalities, “Gracious Deviants” is in fact an anagram of “voices and guitars”.

Their sound is pure, unadorned acoustic pop music heavy with harmony and steeped in the traditions of the great New Zealand singer/songwriters of the last thirty years. Their repertoire consists entirely of original material – songs about relationships, about love at every stage from the unrequited to the happy couple, from the first spark to the dying embers.

Old friends from way back, Pete and Darrel finally sat down and decided to write their own material after years of playing other people’s. Their first live performance together as the Gracious Deviants was a last-minute leap of faith at Henrietta Ford’s Stagecoach Open Mic Night at the Blue Note in Wellington using borrowed gear. Since then they have been catching the ears and eyes of Wellingtonians with their distinctive songs, the lyrics simple and relatable but never plain. Their performances have reminded audiences that music in its most stripped-down form- homegrown, acoustic, and entirely original- can be the most refreshing and novel.

Darrel and Pete are both strong singers, alternating lead vocals in their songs. Neither profess to be “lead guitarist” either, they prefer to accompany themselves with a more egalitarian, rhythmic interplay between their two acoustic guitars. Their goal in every performance is to come across as more than just three people, the sum far greater than its

NZ singer/songwriter Nate Kruse writes and performs pop rock and acoustic music as a soloist. Born in 2001 and coming from a town in rural South Auckland, Nate has wanted to pursue his music career ever since he was 9 after performing his first cover in his primary school talent quest. From then on his inspiration for writing music has always been his main priority.

Finding his own style of music that is different from the other artists but a style that could catch attention from different types of people has been his main focus. He has noticed an increase in electronic music which he enjoys, but he misses hearing music that consists of real guitars and drums.

Nate believes everyone has the chance to do something better than it has already been done before. He hopes to grab many different people’s attention and wishes that they can feel all of the emotions that he writes with.

As Nate pursues his solo career, he also performs as a lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in a band of four; Mind Over Matter. His experience as part of the band has revealed his true passion and clarity that his future will be in music. The joy and inspiration people get from listening to good music is something Nate revels in and aspires to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

Nate is currently working towards releasing a few 2017 singles as well as an E.P album.

Paul Hoggard and Penny Rowsell-Hoggard are local singer/songwriters from Aongatete (near Tauranga) who have now been together for about 10 years. During that time they have taken their songs over the length of this country and have toured through UK and Ireland twice whist in between finding time to make 4 albums of their own music. With roots in folk music and in the pop/rock music of the 70’s and 80’s they have settled on a fine mix of songs that take you on journeys, tell stories and provide you with a palette of timbre through change in instruments and rhythms to keep you entertained. Their melody and harmony arrangements will hook and draw you deeper into the songs. At one of these concerts these days you are also likely to hear a couple of cover songs they love and have stood the test of time.

Frankencopter are a 4 piece Rock band that explode on stage with Blues Brass and Balls! Inspired by the super rock and pop sounds of the seventies, they are a melding of AC/DC and Led Zeppelin performed by the love child of David Bowie and Tom Petty! Our songs vary in tempo and character, some are a mix of funk, jazz and blues, others clearly Rock that grinds close to Heavy Metal. A unique sound with plenty of bluesy Sax and formidable Guitars, all backed up by the tightest Bass and Drum sound this side of the Mississippi!

Don’t take our word for it…

Great for a party – when Frankencopter rocks out, you just wanna dance!

Cath Vincent

Outstanding sound and extremely entertaining. Their covers are so good (true to the originals, whilst making them their own) and their originals I’ve heard absolutely rock!! If you’re looking for a great band for a great event, then Frankencopter should be your first call. Brilliant!
Andrew Vesey
Great band with a fantastic collection of rock classics and some original songs. Heard them last week again. A must see.
I have had the pleasure of being at two of Frankencopter’s performances and they are fantastic! No matter what type of music you like, when Frankencopter play, you just want to get up and dance! These guys are top quality, professional and talented, with a wide musical repertoire that encourages positive expression from an audience. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Frankencopter for your next event.

Auckland based musician Geoff Horne has been playing and singing since he was seven. He was born in Britain but refers to himself as ‘NZ bred’. His parents started him off with piano lessons when he was younger, then he found his way to the guitar a little later, after being impressed by the ‘twang’ of the electric guitar sound which captured his imagination whilst watching a high school band play George Harrison’s ‘My Sweet Lord’ when he was eleven.

Geoff is currently working on his first album of original songs, after many years of experience playing in bands and performing as a solo artist. Having worked in Australia, the UK and USA he is certainly well traveled.

A highlight in Geoff’s musical journey would have to be when he performed with the Doobie Brothers in 2011 at their concert at the Civic Theatre in Auckland.

When playing covers Geoff likes to cover a wide range of genres and styles although he does admit he has a weakness for rockabilly which he likes to describe as “a blend of 30s blues, 40s swing, 50s rock n’ roll and a smattering of 60’s pop thrown in”.

October 2017 is Geoff’s big moment when you will have the opportunity to hear his album in it’s entirety and purchase it through several retail outlets along with a digital version.

Singer / songwriter, acoustic folk

A whole spectrum of emotion with Nigel, particularly excelling in his ability to present each song as a story. His mellow vocal tone ideal. “Bright Young Folk”.

“A prominent singer/guitarist with a big strong rousing voice that lends itself equally well to heartache ballads, rock and roll and sea shanties”, said Mainly Acoustic.

Described by a radio presenter as “one of the finest traditional folk artists in NZ”, Nigel Parry’s unique mix of contemporary, traditional and early music relies heavily on his vocal arrangements. Hailing from the UK Nigel was originally a rock singer and turned to folk music through friends, historical events and real ale.

Nigel now lives in Wellington and in the last 5 years has performed solo, in duos and bands, at events and music venues around New Zealand, in festivals and live on radio in the UK, France and Canada. His largest recent performance was in front of 10,000 at the “People’s Climate March”, from the steps of Parliament, invited to present new song When The Rain Comes.

In 2014 Nigel was voted People’s Choice for the Wellington Folk Festival, performing on the main stage. The year before he released a new studio album, “Row Out to your ship of dreams”.

Coming from a musical theater family I grew up on the stage, I was 6 years old when I first I remember performing at Opera House stage here in Wellington. It was for a DARE Campaign starring Nick Tensely from ZMFM or Radio Windy in the day.
From there my father involved me in shows and used to take me to band practice when he’d go. Performing is on only in the blood, it now occupies my whole being and soul to.
From 16 years old I was the leading singer (more like barking into the micro-phoner) and fronted bands. I was a wayward teenager with attitude which only music could put into check. As it turned out. My first band was Element, we quickly became the resident band of a bar called Cuba Cuba on Cuba st in wellington in 1995. We saved the door takings until we had enough to record. We paid $1200 for 4 or 5  songs and received a few DAT tapes for our efforts. The world has gone crazy since then.
That was it I was going to be a rock star and that was that. After 2 serious bands, Element and 6 Foot Thumb, appearing in movies, adverts and a long line of musical theater shows, becoming a stripper at one stage to support the dream, blowing out my voice twice, and a very blurry 20’s I finally decided that I better learn an instrument, so I learned a few..
One of the first things I learned about the industry as far as musician’s are concerned, if you don’t do it yourself it probably wont get done. With this attitude I lead each band I was in, arranging gigs, practices, equipment and running around after the boys. These years gave me a the experience I needed to take the next step in life. Studio 11. Or though I have only had it a short time, it’s a collaboration of 24 years of collecting instruments, experiences and failures that have contributed to what myself and the team of us have brought to life. I now run a fully operating venue, connected to a sound/recording booth, connect to a nation wide local radio station (Infinity FM).
I have already been fortunate enough to have had some amazing artist through and now work with every style from funk to rock to rap to singer/song writers. As these are completed, they will be released. As Studio 11 grows with LMM we will be looking to improve production levels and release one chart topping music.
Wellington, in fact New Zealand is a small place with a massive diversity of musical cultures and styles. I believe we will become the next hot spot for the worlds music, as we have with other movies and sports.
I believe the relationship between LMM and Studio 11 will help bounce some of our top artists to world industry standards. If I get my way, we will raise the bar using nothing more heart, passion and going back to less technical authentic ways of recording music.
Book one of my life is well finished. Book 2 started in June. Who’s in for some fun, creativity and meeting awesome musos from Wellington and being part of this beautiful thing? Because we certainly want to meet you, jam laugh and live the life we were born for, To play, live and love our music.

A word from our sponsor – THE LMM CLUB has enjoyed many high’s this year one being the release of volume 3 our compilation CD featuring 16 tracks. The generosity of the Music Planet in Wellington has seen our club secure the use of a PA and sound system which our covers band “Encore” will use to travel with during their tour representing The WLMM Club band. Several of our club members are now enjoying increased live performance work and increased interest in them due to the marketing of their individual profiles. Shirley encourages artists to promote their profiles, create good quality music videos and to continue recording and submitting their songs for promotions to radio. We have had success with More FM Coromandel, Radio Active and several digital radio stations playing our music. LMM has no control over which producers will add our songs to their playlists but persistence does pay off. It is time to release volume 3 on a larger scale using a New Zealand owned distributor which I will reveal the details of later this month.
