MECUZINE

MECUZINE

“A band for the ages”

Mecuzine is the complete package. A blend of seasoned performers and youthful, exuberant talent combined with brilliant song-writing, subtle arrangements and dynamic performances.

Tony Johns (aka T) the front man, is a singer song writer and modern day storyteller who castes a refreshing new light on issues which seldom attract the spotlight.  With an explosive guitar style and a voice and onstage presence which eminates from the deepest recesses of his soul, T lures you into the passion and the pain. Working with icons of the NZ music industry like Mike Chunn, Bruce Lynch and Don McGlashin, T has had publishing deals,  and has released his songs in every format. As front man and song writer for “BLONDE COMEDY” and “NATIONAL ANTHEM”  he performed in venues of all shapes and sizes, from pubs to concerts, and with artists from the top draw like INXS, SPLIT ENZ, BILLY IDOL, MIDNIGHT OIL and  DIVINYLS.

Tony Lumsden, bass playing supremo and BVs, undoubtably the most internationally significant bass player out of little ol’ New Zealand.  You will never hear him say it, but Tony has played, toured or recorded with rock royalty here and abroad, including: THE CURE, ELVIS COSTELLO, HELLO SAILOR, JANE HELLRIEGEL ANDREW FAGAN, RICKY MORRIS.

No more to be said!

Joseph Johns, son of T, rhythm guitarist and BVs, formerly of “CHILD” and Mike Walsh drummer, ex “EDDIES NECK ROLL” and “FIRST BASE”.  Both of immense talent which, under the steady hands and deep experience surrounding them, will see the cream rise to the top.  And finally, John Beech on keys and other assorted sounds – formerly of “SHADE” and Godfather (“don’t fuck with me”) of the band who lived and breathed the cosmic musical cataclysm of the late 60s and 70s, and claims to be ‘hangin’ in here to make sure the young fellas don’t forget where this all began”.

FRANKENCOPTER

Frankencopter are a 4 piece Rock band that explode on stage with Blues Brass and Balls! Inspired by the super rock and pop sounds of the seventies, they are a melding of AC/DC and Led Zeppelin performed by the love child of David Bowie and Tom Petty! Our songs vary in tempo and character, some are a mix of funk, jazz and blues, others clearly Rock that grinds close to Heavy Metal. A unique sound with plenty of bluesy Sax and formidable Guitars, all backed up by the tightest Bass and Drum sound this side of the Mississippi!

Don’t take our word for it…

Great for a party – when Frankencopter rocks out, you just wanna dance!

Cath Vincent

Outstanding sound and extremely entertaining. Their covers are so good (true to the originals, whilst making them their own) and their originals I’ve heard absolutely rock!! If you’re looking for a great band for a great event, then Frankencopter should be your first call. Brilliant!
Andrew Vesey

Shane
I have had the pleasure of being at two of Frankencopter’s performances and they are fantastic! No matter what type of music you like, when Frankencopter play, you just want to get up and dance! These guys are top quality, professional and talented, with a wide musical repertoire that encourages positive expression from an audience. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Frankencopter for your next event.

NATE KRUSE

NZ singer/songwriter Nate Kruse writes and performs pop rock and acoustic music as a soloist. Born in 2001 and coming from a town in rural South Auckland, Nate has wanted to pursue his music career ever since he was 9 after performing his first cover in his primary school talent quest. From then on his inspiration for writing music has always been his main priority.

Finding his own style of music that is different from the other artists but a style that could catch attention from different types of people has been his main focus. He has noticed an increase in electronic music which he enjoys, but he misses hearing music that consists of real guitars and drums.

Nate believes everyone has the chance to do something better than it has already been done before. He hopes to grab many different people’s attention and wishes that they can feel all of the emotions that he writes with.

As Nate pursues his solo career, he also performs as a lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in a band of four; Mind Over Matter. His experience as part of the band has revealed his true passion and clarity that his future will be in music. The joy and inspiration people get from listening to good music is something Nate revels in and aspires to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

Nate has released his single “Move Over” on Local Musicians Music Vol 4 compilation album and is looking forward to working towards his EP/Album.

TONY LEE

Tony Lee started his musical interest by singing along with his mum while she played the piano. He has a brief stint.

Tony learned piano and joined the school choir in Intermediate school. It wasn’t until he turned 21 that he started taking a real interest in playing guitar and discovered that he had an ability to write songs and sing (although he had to give up smoking to assist with his vocals). This ability slowly progressed from playing in a covers band and progressed into an originals band called Ward 19, writing rock songs tindged with a bit of punk and country influence.

Tony Lee’s debut solo album was ‘Road Less Travelled’. The album received high accolades in the press with critics loving. Tony’s ‘wear your heart on your sleeve’ approach to songwriting.

Tony’s music video for ‘All that a man can do” has been internationally recognised by making the semi finals in the ISC (International Songwriting Competition) and by getting nominated in the music video category at the Limelight Film awards in London. The video was produced by Neil Whitman who had made video’s for Chris Rea and Robbie Williams.

‘So far from the truth’ is the latest album from artist Tony Lee. The album embraces his shift to a new age country rock sound, which has been refined and embellished with catchy guitar riffs and rocking leads.

Still embracing Tony’s ‘heart on his sleeve’ style of writing, the songs cover a range of subjects including the death of his Dad, but they all come together under the banner of ‘Heartfelt songs about life’s daily struggle.

‘So far from he truth’ is Tony’s view of his world and how he thinks it should be, while admitting that he does not always see things the way he should.

CHRIS BARCLAY

Songwriting has enabled Chris to revolve around guitar virtuosity and  still retain the typical formula of a pop song. Chris says, “The Guitar guides my voice”. The pentatonic scale is the pop songwriters vehicle of choice, and Chris employs this introducing the modal approach to give extra colour.

Chris was influenced by many of the 80s rock virtuoso’s who used this technique to build tension in the guitar solo or music. Chris identifies “Surfing With an Alien” by Joe Satriani as a major influence. Chris also frequently uses blues, pentatonic and chromatic runs in his playing. Chris says “I am definitely influenced by the great white blues guitar players who were influenced by some of the early black blues players.”

Chris has a enjoyed nearly a decade performing for Art Exhibitions and Weddings. Having worked in several covers bands including Nstinct with LA Thompson and later acoustic duo when their band broke up. With performances at Transmission House and The Occidental Chris is well equipped to handle any gig from a small intimate party to festival.

In 2012 Chris won the Guitarshop TV artist video competition with his song ‘I Won’t Fade’.
